5.7 million youths could be trained to meet 3 million manpower demand in tourism and hospitality by 2028

According to the Tourism and Hospitality Skill Sector Council (THSC)’s report, it is estimated that 5.7 million youths could be trained to meet an expected incremental labor demand of 3 million workers between 2025 and 2028 in the tourism and hospitality industry. However, challenges such as low wages and long working hours deter youth from continuing in the industry.

Manoharan Periasamy takes over as Director General of Malaysia Tourism

Manoharan Periasamy, who previously held the position of India Director at Tourism Malaysia, has assumed the role of Director General at the tourism promotion agency, commencing today. Prior to this appointment, he served as the Senior Director for International Promotion (Asia & Africa) at Tourism Malaysia. Notably, he is the first individual of Malaysian-Indian descent to be appointed as the Director General for Tourism Malaysia. With a distinguished career, he has completed three consecutive terms as the Director of Tourism Malaysia for India. His contributions include pioneering the establishment of the inaugural NTO office in Mumbai back in 2001.

VisitBritain to promote destinations through popular films and TV shows: CEO Patricia Yates

Announcing the new focus of VisitBritain, its CEO Patricia Yates said that it will use the power of these platforms to tell the stories that will encourage travellers to explore more of Britain. “It’s a great industry to align with. The new campaign titled ‘Starring Great Britain’ will be released around early summer globally including India. We will work through the destinations that we want to promote through this. For instance, West Midlands is the background for the show Peaky Blinders. We need to also persuade the operators to put more such products into the itinerary and sell it,” she said.
