Celebrating World Tourism Day, the Ministry ofTourism, will present the National Tourism Awards to various segments of the travel, tourism and hospitality industry. Further, as India celebrates 75 years of independence, the Ministry of Tourism commences its Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM) iconic week on 27th September 2022, and also recognizes the efforts of industry stakeholders by conferring the National Tourism Awards.

Asian tourists are only expected to resume international travel at pre-pandemic levels gradually, by 2024, the new chief executive of online travel agency Agoda said. The Asia-focused company expects tourists from Asian countries, excluding China, will take about six months after respective COVID-19 restrictions are lifted to travel confidently, said Omri Morgenstern, who took the helm at Agoda in July.

Rajiv Mehra, President, IATO, addressed the National Conference of State Tourism Ministers in Dharamshala recently, where he requested G Kishan Reddy, Union Minister of Tourism, Culture and DoNER, to declare 2023 as Visit India Year for foreign tourists. “This will help the industry to revive, otherwise I expect just 35% business to come by 31st March 2023,” he said.

Union Minister G Kishan Reddy said the government has taken a four-fold strategy for the development of tourism in the country that focuses on improving connectivity, enhancing tourism infrastructure, streamlining branding, and showcasing culture and heritage.   

Arvind Singh, Secretary Tourism, has said that that the national conference of state tourism ministers is being held because we all want tourism to be a national priority and we all want the central and state governments to work in tandem as one team that works together to deliver.

Highlighting the slogan of Vikas Bhi Virasat Bhi Union Minister informed the National Tourism Policy will be brought out before the Budget session and various tourist circuits are being promoted and a new ‘Ambedkar Circuit’ shall soon be launched.

Sharing an update on the convention, Ajay Prakash, TAFI President, says, “We have registered 485 delegates for the upcoming convention. The enthusiasm is remarkable because our convention is happening directly after 2018. The destination is interesting as well as it is a relatively unknown destination for the Indian travel trade. We opened registrations for the convention on August 5 and within just two weeks we received over 400 registrations! However, we were clear that we would only take members who are actively involved in the trade and of course the first preference is our own members.”
