About 700 participants are expected at the SingapoReimagine MICE Virtual Show, an event organised by Singapore Tourism Board for local and international MICE players to connect and showcase their offerings. This is its first such collaboration with local MICE players. The two-day event will be held from 3 to 4 March 2021 and is part of Singapore’s efforts to catalyse the MICE industry’s recovery and generate business opportunities for its partners. The event will see up to 40 suppliers like hotels, convention centres and tour operators. Exhibitors include Gardens by the Bay, Singapore Airlines and Sentosa Development Corporation. The top 5 voted buyers will each win a hosted trip to Singapore on Singapore Airlines, inclusive of a hosted stay and exclusive experiences.

Kerala Travel Mart (KTM) 2021, scheduled to take place virtually from March 1-5, was inaugurated by Chief Guest Arif Mohammed Khan, Governor of Kerala. As many as 40,000 meetings are scheduled between buyers and 600 exhibitors during the five days. Also, 500 foreign buyers and 1,500 tour operators will be part of the event this year.

Amitabh Kant, CEO, Niti Aayog, speaking at the ITM 2021 inauguration assured that the government intervention for tourism is necessary and would come at the right time. “Tourism cannot grow in isolation, but will grow with many other sectors, and the infrastructure-focused budget is going to be a catalyst of that growth. Government is fully aware of the challenges of the sector,” he said.

Subhash Goyal, Hony. Secretary General, FAITH, has said that the knowledge conclave at Virtual ITM 2021, will have various sessions, and each of them will be chaired by the head of one of the 10 member associations of FAITH. “There is a session on adventure tourism, a session on MICE, as well as a session on medical tourism, where Dr. Naresh Trehan from Medanta will give a keynote address and it will also have Dr. Harsh Vardhan, Minister of Health and Family Welfare, along with the chiefs of Max and Dr. Lal Pathlabs. There will be many other similar sessions on various topics, which will be open to everyone,” he added.

Arvind Singh, Secretary, Tourism, in his address at the 10th ADTOI Convention has said that Kevadia is the most powerful example of how tourism can improve the standard of living of all. He also added that things are returning to normal in the last quarter of this financial year, adding that 2020 was unprecedented in many ways. Singh also informed that constant discussions are going on with the Ministry of Home Affairs and Health Ministry to relax the ban on tourist visas and the right decision will be taken in this matter when the appropriate time comes.

More than 200 people took out a peaceful protest rally in Kochi on February 5 to urge authorities to save the tourism sector that has been badly hit by the COVID-19 pandemic. A call had recently been made by the Indian travel fraternity for the same.
