Prestige to add 1000 rooms in India by 2025 across 4 Marriott brands

Marriott International and Prestige Group has announced the signing of agreements to open six new hotels across India. Under the agreement, Prestige Group would build new hotels across the W, JW Marriott, Tribute Portfolio and Moxy brands across India’s Southern belt, representing nearly 1,000 rooms across four brands. Prestige Group, plans to open the W Bengaluru, Tribute Portfolio Resort Bengaluru, Tribute Portfolio Hotel Kochi Maradu, JW Marriott Bengaluru Prestige Golfshire Resort & Spa, Moxy Chennai and Moxy Bengaluru, all ofwhich are expected to open between 2021 and 2025.

India’s hotel construction up by 8% in October; 24,892 rooms under construction: STR

STR’s hotel pipeline data for the Asia Pacific region showed 2,039 projects accounting for 450,231 rooms in construction as of October 2019. This represented a 20.7% year-over-year increase in the number of rooms in the final phase of the development pipeline.  Five countries reported more than 20,000 rooms under construction including India where 24,892 rooms are under construction showing a growth of 8.3% over last year.

Bengaluru records highest RevPAR growth in third quarter 2019: JLL

Bengaluru recorded highest RevPAR % change in Q3 2019 over the same period last year with 11%, followed by Gurugram with 9.5% and Hyderabad with 6.9% RevPAR change. The Hotel Momentum India (HMI) report for Q3 2019 has revealed that 9 out of 10 markets in India recorded an increase in RevPAR Performance in Q3 2019 over the same period last year. Mumbai came out to be the winner all across when it comes to RevPAR in absolute terms.

Indian 5-star hotels recorded highest occupancy in February for FY 2018

The highest occupancy for Financial Year 2018-19 (FY 2018-19) for Indian hotels was in February 2019, with an average occupancy of 81% in 5-star hotels and 77% in 5-star deluxe hotels, according to a report by CARE Ratings. November 2018 saw the second highest occupancy with 80% average occupancy for 5-star hotels and 72% for five-star deluxe hotels. In December 2018, 79% average occupancy was recorded for 5-star hotels, while 69% was recorded for 5-star deluxe hotels.

ITDC gets new CMD: G Kamala Vardhana Rao

G Kamala Vardhana Rao, IAS, Kerala Cadre has joined as the Chairman and Managing Director (C&MD) of India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC). Before assuming the office at ITDC, Rao was serving as the Principal Secretary, Government of Kerala. He was also the Secretary of Kerala Tourism from 2014-15. In his career spanning almost three decades, Rao has served multiple positions including Chairman of Indian Tobacco Board, Director of Fisheries Department, Director, Department of Tourism & Culture, Government of Andhra Pradesh, Managing Director of SC /ST Corporation in Andhra Pradesh, the Revenue Secretary of Kerala and the District Collector, Kollam, Kerala.
