A total of 1854.93 million domestic tourist visits were recorded to various states and UTs across India in 2018, revealed Ministry of Tourism’s report titled ‘India Tourism Statistics at a Glance 2019’. It recorded an increase of 11.9 per cent increase over that recorded in 2017 (1657.55 million).

The percentage shares of top 15 source countries availing e-Tourist Visa facilities during November, 2019 were highest from UK (12.22%), followed by USA (10.75%), China (8.06%), Russian Fed (7.85%), Malaysia (5.71%), France (4.61%),Germany (4.60%), Australia (4.16%), Canada (3.85%), Thailand (3.25%), Italy (2.32%), Singapore (1.87%), Spain (1.64%), Vietnam (1.50%) and Israel (1.40%), reveals Ministry of Tourism.

During January- November 2019, a total of 25,51,211 tourist arrived on e-Tourist Visa as compared to 20,61,511 during January- November 2018, registering a growth of 23.8%, revealed recently released statistics by Ministry of Tourism (MOT). During the month of November, 2019 total of 3,75,484 tourist arrived on e-Tourist Visa as compared to 2,61,959 during the month of November, 2018 registering a growth of 43.3%.

The Union Cabinet has given its approval to release funds to the tune of Rs 2,482.07 crore fund for the development of infrastructure and tourist amenities under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme project. Out of this, Rs 627.40 crore has been sanctioned for the 10 Swadesh Darshan Scheme projects sanctioned during 2018-19. It also gave its approval for the release of an additional Rs 1,854.67 crore for sanctioning of new projects during 2019-20 in the scheme. Under the scheme, the Ministry of Tourism is developing critical tourism infrastructure in a sustainable and inclusive manner. The provision of this critical infrastructure will catalyse the private sector investment in revenue-generating projects which in turn would lead to positive enhancement of overall experience of tourists. This would lead to increased footfall in the areas, growth of revenue and employment.

According to the data released by the Ministry of Tourism, Government, Foreign Tourist Arrival (FTA) in India has registered a growth of 7.8 per cent in the month of November 2019 in compared to the same month last year. FTAs in November 2019 were 10,91,946 as compared to 10,12,569 in November 2018 registering a growth of 7.8 per cent. Whereas, FTAs during the period January- November 2019 were 96,69,633 as compared to 93,66,478 in January- November 2018 registering a growth of 3.2 per cent.

India’s tourism sector is adopting a new digital and social media strategy to increase the flow of visitors from the East Asian markets, with a focus on China’s millennial, said, Rupinder Brar, ADG, MOT, post Incredible India roadshow in Singapore. She adds, “The feedback from Chinese millennials has helped understand their travelling needs. With such feedback, tour operators have been urged to plan tour products that offer more than the clichés.”

During the month of September, 2019, a total of 1,97,948 tourist arrived on e-Tourist Visa as compared to 1,58,884 during the month of September, 2018 registering a growth of 24.6%, according to Ministry of Tourism statistics. During January- September 2019, a total of 18,98,665 tourist arrived on e-Tourist Visa as compared to 15,77,418 during January- September 2018, registering a growth of 20.4%. The percentage shares of top 15 source countries availing e-Tourist Visa facilities during September, 2019 were highest from China (11.87%), followed by USA (9.91%), UK (8.84%), Malaysia (6.09%), Australia (4.72%), Germany (3.95%), France (3.75), Israel (3.26%), Canada (2.68%), Singapore (2.67%), Spain (2.59%), Japan (2.52%), Oman (2.31%), Italy (2.12%) and Indonesia (2.07%).

During the month of August 2019, a total of 1,66,424 tourist arrived on e-Tourist Visa, as compared to 1,50,457 during the month of August, 2018, registering a growth of 10.6%, according to statistics released by Ministry of Tourism (MOT). During January- August 2019, a total of 17,00,717 tourist arrived on e-Tourist Visa as compared to 14,18,534 during January-August 2018, registering a growth of 19.9%.

From January- July 2019, a total of 15,34,293 tourist arrived on e-Tourist Visa as compared to 12,68,077 during January-July 2018, registering a growth of 21.0%, according to Ministry of Tourism (MOT). During the month of July, 2019 total of 1,77,084 tourist arrived on e-Tourist Visa as compared to 1,58,337 during the month of July, 2018 registering a growth of 11.8%. The percentage shares of top 15 ports in tourist arrivals on e-Tourist Visa during July, 2019 were highest from New Delhi Airport (38.5%) followed by Mumbai Airport (17.4%), Chennai Airport (10.8%), Bengaluru Airport (10.4%), Hyderabad Airport (5.3%), Kochi Airport (4.9%), Tirchy Airport (2.9%), Kolkata Airport (2.4%), Ahmedabad Airport (1.6%), Trivandrum Airport (1.1%), Calicut Airport (1.1%), Amritsar Airport (1.0%), Jaipur Airport (0.5%), Dabolim (Goa) Airport (0.4%), Coimbatore Airport (0.3%) and Sonauli Land Checkpost (0.3%).

The Foreign Tourist Arrivals (FTAs) in July 2019 were 8,17,455 as compared to 8,06,495 in July 2018, registering a growth of 1.4%. FTAs during the period January-July 2019 were 60,84,353 as compared to 59,57,816 in January- July 2018 registering a growth of 2.1%, as revealed by Ministry of Tourism, Government of India.
