Arvind Singh, Secretary, Tourism, has said that India’s global tourism indices will go up by improving the safety and security aspects of tourism and would go a long way in making India one of the favourable destinations. He urged all the tourism stakeholders to work closely and strengthen the security aspect of the tourist destinations.

Arvind Singh, Secretary, Tourism, has said that we should use G20 Presidency to project the strong cases of our nation and showcase the country to the global leaders. “If we are successful in doing that, I am sure it would take our tourism sector to the next level.”

In response to hotel industry’s demand for amendment in the definition of infrastructure status, Arvind Singh, Secretary, MOT said, “We are looking at changing the definition of infrastructure status for hotels to help the industry attract investment. It has the attention of the higher authorities and we will have an order on it shortly.  It is currently as per 2011 census and needs to change to accommodate the demands of hospitality business today.”

Arvind Singh, Secretary, Tourism, has said that they are considering many demands from the industry, including rationalisation of taxation and GST refund to foreign tourists. “There is news that the GoI is thinking of a pilot project for GST refund for foreign tourists in certain places,” he informed.

Arvind Singh, Secretary, Tourism, has said that we need to ensure sustainable, responsible and inclusive development of tourism in the country. “Everyone needs to be on the same page and need to promote Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat to provide a greater interaction between the states and Union Territories,” he added.

Arvind Singh, Secretary, Tourism, has said that earlier, countries that took G20 Presidency, used it as an opportunity to project their nation to global community. “Thus, it is an opportunity for us to utilise in 2023. We look forward to positioning India as an important destination for the rest of the world,” he claimed.

Arvind Singh, Secretary, Tourism, has said that the Ministry of Tourism will be setting up a National Tourism Board, which will have a CEO at the helm. It will formulate specific strategies for promotion in different countries by coordinating with respective international missions. He was speaking at the Hospitality and Tourism Conclave organised by Services Export Promotions Council (SEPC).

Arvind Singh, Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, said that we need to make use of cleaner fuels. “State tourism policies should recognise sustainability principles and the Sustainable Development Goals in their vision and strategic direction for tourism. With the vision to create a sustainable future for tourism, the Ministry of Tourism has also taken various steps in this direction”, he added.

Arvind Singh, Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, has said that the role of the state or national authority would be to incentivise the sustainable practices by local stakeholders and also to popularize responsibility and talk about responsible travel amongst tourists. Singh was speaking at the ‘World Majlis: Off the Beaten Path – Travel in the 21st Century’ session during the India Tourism Fortnight at Expo 2020.

Arvind Singh, Secretary, Tourism, has said that they will soon launch digital and social media campaigns. “We are working on that and we have plans to have wherever possible some physical events also. We want to launch the campaigns this month itself,” he says. Singh further adds, “Apart from our India tourism offices, the government has nominated 20 nodal officers in the missions. With their help also, we intend to launch promotional campaigns.”
