Greece’s Sky Express appoints Aviareps as its GSA

Aviareps has been appointed by Sky Express to represent the Greek domestic airline as its General Sales Agent (GSA) in eight markets around the world including Australia, Canada, France, Hong Kong, India, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom. The appointment, made with immediate effect, is the result of the airline’s initiative to expand its sales and marketing outreach internationally to travellers and travel industry leaders in key strategic markets. Operating out of its three domestic hubs of Athens, Thessaloniki and Heraklion in Crete, Sky Express connects travellers to 29 major tourist, cultural and business centres throughout Greece including Santorini, Mykonos, Rhodes, Milos, Paros, Naxos, Kos, Mytilene, Ikaria, Zakynthos Kythira, Chios, Karpathos, Syros and Skyros to name a few. The fleet, which consists mainly of ATR aircrafts, is available for scheduled and charter flights, for individual passengers or groups. All Sky Express passengers departing from Athens or Thessaloniki are also provided free access to Business Lounge facilities.

Over 2000 meetings @ the 2nd Travel Wedding Show

The second edition of Travel Wedding Show concluded with over 2000 meetings conducted among 32 exhibitors and nearly 64 buyers from July 8-9, 2017, at Jaipur Marriott Hotel. Representatives from hotels and tourism boards exhibited their various products for wedding tourism. On day one of the show, travel agents and tour operators from across the country interacted with exhibitors while day two of the event saw the bigwigs of the wedding industry in India attend the show to meet and network with various exhibitors. Stalwarts of MICE, wedding tourism and hospitality industry like Hemant Mendiratta, Senior Vice President-Sales, The Oberoi Hotels; Saurabh Bhargava, AVP Sales-North, Taj Hotels Palace Resorts and Safaris; Hema Hariramani, Director, National Sales- India, Marriott International; Rajeev Jain, Vice President and Treasurer, EEMA and Vinod Bhandari, Partner, Wedding Xtraordinaire LLP, addressed various challenges faced by these industries in a panel discussion at the show. Royal Jordanian Airlines latest to have electronic ban lifted

Royal Jordanian Airlines has announced that it has been removed from the laptop ban for carry-on bags to the US. Even Kuwait Airways has had the electronic ban removed in flights to the US. The flagship carrier of Jordan was amongst the nine airlines flying from 10 airports in eight countries where electronic devices larger than cell phones in carry-on bags were banned. Etihad Airways was the first airline to announce the lifting of the ban on July 2, followed by Emirates Airlines, Turkish Airlines and Qatar Airways. The airlines that are still listed in the March laptop ban include EgyptAir, Saudi Arabian Airlines and Royal Air Maroc.

Over 350 delegates @ MoCA’s 1st WINGS 2017

Ministry of Civil Aviation, hosted the first edition of WINGS 2017 – ‘Sab Uden, Sab Juden”- Expanding Regional Connectivity in New Delhi.  The plenary session was chaired by  P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju, Union Minister of Civil Aviation.  Around 338 delegates from the government and civil aviation sector participated in the event which included key stakeholders from all states, tourism departments and tour operators. The stakeholders interacted amongst themselves in 112 one to one discussions (G2B meetings) with the airlines operators in an attempt to showcase their destinations and routes as viable business market for the airlines. They represented airline consumers to facilitate interaction with various airlines, airport operators, cargo operators and other ecosystem players at a common forum. Jayant Sinha, Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation;Rajiv Nayan Choubey, Secretary, MoCA; B S Bhullar, Director General of Civil Aviation; Guruprasad Mohapatra, Chairman, Airports Authority of India; Usha Padhee, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation and Pratyush Kumar, Chairman, FICCI National Aviation Committee also attended the sessions. 19 states made presentations emphasising the incentives or special packages to the airlines other than the support offered by Government of India under RCS- UDAN. The closed-door event entailed incentives to the airlines operators such as underwriting of seats, reducing the tax on ATF, additional VGF, night parking, concessional electricity and water charges, infrastructural support etc. and routes and airport wise benefits. This event proved to be an ideal platform for states to project themselves as a viable aviation market and showcasing the strength and opportunities in the aviation sector to the potential airlines.

FICCI GMTM 2017 from Sep 14-16

The second edition of the Global MICE Travel Mart (GMTM) organised by FICCI, will be held on September 14-16, 2017. This was announced by Rahul Chakravarty, Senior Director – Tourism, FICCI on the sidelines of FICCI’s Tourism Investors Meet that took place last week. The annual event will be instrumental in putting MICE destinations in India on the itineraries of the foreign tour operators and opinion leaders from India. Recognising the need to propel the highly-potential MICE industry to greater heights, FICCI introduced GMTM in 2016 where the inaugural edition saw a participation of over 30 buyers from 12 countries. Face-to-face meetings among exhibitors and buyers were held in full swing, along with a panel discussion where insights and challenges of the MICE industry were discussed.

2nd Travel Wedding Show kicks off in Jaipur

The second edition of the Travel Wedding Show is all set to open to a full house at Jaipur Marriott Hotel. TravelTriangle organises GST session for travel partners in Delhi

Online travel company TravelTriangle recently organised a session on GST for travel agents associated with their platform. TravelTriangle roped in reputed law firm Lakshmikumaran & Sridharan Attorneys to facilitate the session, which was conducted by Kapil Kumar Sharma. Aimed at educating TravelTriangle’s travel partners about the impending GST rollout and its implications on their business, the seminar gave attendees an overview of GST and changes in the taxation structure. Changes in law governing the travel industry in context of a marketplace were also discussed, as were the compliance requirements under the GST regime and the grey areas that still exist. Other critical aspects, such as the transition from the current market approach to the ‘One Nation, One Tax, One Market’ model proposed under the GST, were also deliberated over in detail. Speaking on the reason behind the undertaking, Yuvraj Khemani, Finance Controller, TravelTriangle said, “While the GST rollout is expected to benefit all stakeholders in the fast-growing Indian travel industry, the actual impact of the new tax regime is still not completely understood by a vast majority of businesses across the country. This was a knowledge gap that we wanted to address with this session. Czech Republic inaugurates VFS centre in Chandigarh, Jalandhar

The Embassy of the Czech Republic and VFS Global inaugurated the 15th and 16th Czech Republic Visa Application Centres in Chandigarh and Jalandhar respectively, significantly extending the network of visa application facilities in the north of India. The centre in Chandigarh was inaugurated by HE Milan Hovorka, Ambassador of the Czech Republic in India, at a ceremony held on 05 July 2017. At the launch, HE Milan Hovorka, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to India, said, “The launch of the Czech Republic Visa Application Centre in Chandigarh reflects the country’s genuine commitment to provide for the growing demands of visas to the country among Indian tourists, business and culture. As a result of this policy, the Czech Republic has emerged as one of the preferred European destinations for Indian tourists.” The opening of 16 visa application centres in India over a two-year period signifies VFS Global’s strengthening association with the Embassy of the Czech Republic. Commenting on the launch of the visa centres, Vinay Malhotra, Chief Operating Officer – Middle East and South Asia, VFS Global, said, “Outbound traffic from India is constantly growing, and the Czech Republic in particular is rapidly gaining popularity as a preferred tourist destination among Indian travel enthusiasts. Japanese hotel group, Prince Hotels acquires StayWell Hospitality Group

Prince Hotels, a consolidated subsidiary of Japan-based Seibu Holdings Inc., has acquired StayWell Hospitality Group including all the business operations of StayWell Group which operates and develops 30 hotels globally. Prince Hotels will establish the 100% fully owned Australian subsidiary StayWell Holdings and this new company will acquire all shares of SWHG’s 22 operating subsidiary companies from SWHG. Proceedings are expected to be completed within the next three months. This business acquisition will further strengthen the globalization of the Seibu Group’s hotel and leisure businesses which serve as a driving force for continued and stronger growth for the Seibu Group. This acquisition will add the 30 hotels operated and developed by SWHG in 7 countries and 21 cities to the existing Prince Hotels network which serves as the core of the Seibu Group’s hotel and leisure businesses. The new properties will serve as further global development and operation platforms, which will allow the Seibu Group to expand the profit earning opportunities of its international hotel business and carry out faster development of hotels in Southeast Asia, Asia and Oceania, the Middle East, and Europe. Seibu Group plans to deploy 100 hotels in 10 years.
