We haven’t been able to get any relaxation of property tax: HRA East India

Sudesh Poddar, recently-elected president of Hotel & Restaurant Association of Eastern India, says, “In spite of several requests to all state governments we haven’t been able to get any relaxation of property tax. There has been no relaxation of excise license fees too. We have sent several letters and sent delegations to respective departments without any effect. We have met several ministries and relevant government departments with our requests, but we haven’t been able to resolve these issues.”

TAFI ties up with Sarovar for special rates for members

Travel Agents Federation of India (TAFI) has done a special tie-up with Sarovar Hotels across India for offering special hotel rates to TAFI members. An initiative by the TAFI Hotels & Resorts Committee, the tie up will allow members to sell inventory of these hotels and resorts using these special rates for their clients. Jigar Dudakiya, Committee Representative, TAFI, says, “To use the facilities, TAFI members must have a TAFI logo and membership number on their email signature. The same will be verified and checked for authenticity by principals. Team TAFI is Pro-actively working to get more such deals to benefit their members.”

TAAI joins hands with Expo 2020 to promote the event amongst its membership

MOT meets associations to plan overseas promotions, including Dubai Expo 2020

Ravi Gosain, Vice President, IATO, has revealed that MOT met with inbound tourism associations to create an action plan for overseas promotion after the visa opening announcement by MHA. While Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav will be the common theme for all promotions, MOT is planning to declare year 2022-23 as Visit India Year. For Dubai Expo, all associations have been asked to give presentations on the sector they represent. “While IATO will give presentation on Luxury in India as well as Heritage & Culture of India, ATOAI will be focusing on adventure opportunities, while ICPB will present on MICE.”

With right measures, governments could see jobs surpass 2019 levels by 2022: WTTC

World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) research has shown that if the right measures are followed by governments across the world, travel and tourism jobs could surpass 2019 levels – up 20.1% year on year, to more than 349 million. Julia Simpson, WTTC President & CEO said, “Last year, 62 million travel & tourism jobs were lost globally, and our data shows a rise of a meagre 0.7% this year. If governments can start looking internationally and support travel & tourism with simplified rules to enable the safe return of travel, there is the opportunity to save jobs and boost economic wealth.”

Inbound operators appeal to Govt to open international tourism with trip to Dholpur and Ramsagar Lake

A group of 18 inbound Tour operators from Delhi undertook a Trip to Dholpur and Ramsagar Lake with an appeal to the government for opening up Tourist Visas and regular international flights. People from the tourism and hospitality industry travelled to Dholpur in Rajasthan from 15th to 18th September to make an appeal to the government to initiate issuance of tourist visas under the banner of “Unlocking International Tourism”. Beginning of this month, the government announcement to extend the ban on international flights by another month put further jitters in the inbound tourism market from India. Already hit by the pandemic, the tourism industry has been suffering for more than 18 months now leading to massive job losses in the industry and multiple tour operators and hotels shutting shop. It is estimated that the tourism industry in India contributes to almost 10% of the GDP and more than 8 million livelihoods. As vaccination across the globe keep increasing by the hour, more countries are opening up borders to the people, especially the double vaccinated population. Multiple countries in Europe are now accessible to fully vaccinated Indians enabling them to restart travel to foreign destinations. However, the same has not been offered to tourists wanting to come to India as e-visas remain suspended, even though the government has indicated that the same would start soon. Around 25 people made their way to Dholpur in Rajasthan and also met 4 time Member of Parliament and a hospitality industry stalwart himself, Mr. Dushyant Singh. Prateek Hira awarded by UP Government

Uttar Pradesh government recognised the efforts of Prateek Hira in the field of Tourism on the occasion of World Tourism Day and to mark 50 years of the Department of Tourism in Uttar Pradesh Government. Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath on 27 September conferred the State Award to Prateek Hira and his company Tornos, declaring it as the best tour company in the state of UP. Prateek has been in the travel trade since the last 27 years and apart from being in business of operating tours he also chairs the FICCI’s Tourism Committee in Uttar Pradesh and UP Chapter of IATO. Government of Uttar Pradesh in its citation has recognised his efforts in promoting the state of Uttar Pradesh and taking it to new heights in the field of Tourism. His cooperation with the department of tourism and involvement with tourism academia and researches is commendable. FICCI’s report on the potential of Culinary Tourism in Uttar Pradesh authored by Prateek Hira, Manish Ahuja and Anirban Chaterjee was also released and launched on this occasion by the Chief Minister, Yogi Adityanath, in presence of Urban Development Minister, Mr. Ashutosh Tandon , Jal Shakti Minister , Dr. Mahendra Singh, Mayor of Lucknow, Mrs Sanyukta Bhaita and the Principal Secretary Tourism & Culture Mr. Mukesh Meshram.
