As slow travel gains traction as a prominent travel trend, Agoda shares insights into the top Asian destinations ideal for prolonged stays. It showed Ahmedabad as the top slow travel destination in India and Asia to discover. South African Tourism announced ‘Africa’s Travel INDABA 2024’ to take place from 13 to 15 May in South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal. The event will host over 40 trade partners from India. Nearly 95 per cent of the participants will be from tier 2 and tier 3 cities. The highlight of this year’s event will be the showcase of new and untapped regions within South Africa.

VIDEC’s 2023 Indian Traveller Behaviour & Insights Report says 59% of Indian travellers prefer short weekend trips, and 79% choose domestic over international destinations. Of the international travellers, 84% were first-time travellers, with Thailand, the UAE and Singapore as the top destinations, chosen for their proximity, climate and cultural appeal.

Speaking at a special session titled ‘Attracting the Indian Travellers into the GCC’, Alhasan Aldabbagh, President, Asia Pacific (APAC), Saudi Tourism Authority, said, “The diverse experiences that Saudi Arabia is offering will attract Indians to the destination. We have eased out the visa and offering free transit visas for Indians for 5-8 hours.”

Enhances permissible weight of pet carriage to 10kgs in cabin Achieves milestone of carrying more than 3,200 pets since the launch of Pets on Akasa service Akasa Air, India’s most dependable airline, recently declare key enhancements to its pet-travel service – Pets on Akasa. Moreover, the airline has also crossed the milestone of carrying 3,200+ pets since the service launched in November 2022. As part of the enhancements, Akasa Air now allows customers to travel with pets weighing up to 10 kgs in the cabin – an increase from the previous limit of 7 kgs. This change has been introduced keeping customer feedback in mind, reflecting the airline’s commitment to continuously enhance its services to meet the evolving travel needs of its customers. In addition, Akasa Air is implementing an enhanced travel certificate policy to provide greater flexibility for customers. In a key development, CRISIL Ratings report revealed that Indian airlines are set to capture nearly 50 per cent of international passenger traffic by FY28 from 43 per cent in FY24. Along with that, the growth in domestic traffic is expected at 10-11 per cent over the same period.  India’s international passenger traffic grew to around 70 million in FY24, from 10 million in FY21.
