Gandhi Darshan Special Tourist Train covering Gandhian Circuit flagged off

Minister of Railways Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu flagged off Gandhi Darshan Special Tourist Train on June 17, 2017. In order to commemorate the centenary celebration of Sabarmati Ashram associated with the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, Ministry of Railways has decided to run Gandhi Darshan Special Tourist Train covering all the important tourist places under Gandhian Circuit. The train will be operated by its PSU IRCTC. Minister of Railways Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu flagged off this train through video conferencing from Bandra, the train started its journey from Sabarmati on June 17 (Saturday), the centenary day of Sabarmati Ashram in the presence of Gujarat Chief Minister, Vijay Rupani. This Gandhi Special Tourist train will cover all the important destinations like Wardha, Motihari, Bettiah, Gaya, Varanasi, Allahabad and Surat connected with India’s freedom struggle movement & Mahatma Gandhi. The train will be on a special tour for 10 days from June 17 to 26, 2017.

Hi-speed Tejas Express between Mumbai and Goa launched

Indian Railways has introduced the new high speed Tejas express between Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus Mumbai and Karmali in Goa. The train was flagged off by Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on May 22 on its inaugural journey to Goa. The train is equipped with many modern facilities such as on-board infotainment, Wi-Fi, CCTV, coffee and tea vending machines, etc. It is a state-of-the-art train with an average operating speed of 130 kmph and a maximum running speed of 200 kmph. The train sports a reasonable fare that extends between 1155-2680 inr and it will operate five times a week during the non-monsoon period and three days a week during the monsoon period. The express has also introduced some new amenities for passenger such as bio-vacuum toilets, sensor taps and a GPS-based passenger information display system and a digital destination board has also been installed for the convenience of the passengers. The train will have automatic doors and is wrapped with a special graffiti proof vinyl that gives the train its distinctive orange and yellow colour. The express train is also expected to be pressed into service in the Delhi-Lucknow and Delhi-Chandigarh sectors according to the railways.

Railway Minister flags off first Antyodaya Express

Minister of Railways Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu flagged off the fourth Humsafar clan of trains and first Antyodaya clan of trains through video conferencing from Rail Bhawan. The minister also launched the New Catering Policy 2017 and the new partnership in parcel business with Department of Post. The first Antyodaya Express between Ernakulam and Howrah viz. Ernakulam-Howrah Antyodaya Express (weekly). Antyodaya Express are long-distance, fully unreserved, superfast train service, for the common man to be operated on dense routes. The new Sriganganagar-Tiruchchirapalli Humsafar Express (weekly) was announced in Railway Budget 2016-17, and is fully air-conditioned third AC service with an optional service for meals. Till date, 3 Humsafar Express trains have been introduced on Indian Railways. Chairman, Railway Board, A.K. Mital, Member Traffic Mohd Jamshed, other Railway Board Members, Secretary Department of Post Boyapati V. Sudhakar and other senior officials were also present on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion Prabhu said, “This is the fourth Humsafar Express to be launched and it will cross the entire country from North to South. Humsafar train is a fully Air Conditioned 3 AC service having facilities like GPS based Passenger Information System, Passenger announcement System, fire and smoke detection and suppression system, CCTVs, comfortable seats, mobile and laptop charging points, integrated Braille display, LCD display above compartment doors in the aisle, Fire retardant curtains, etc.” He also said that “Today we are launching the country’s first Antyodaya Express to be launched.
