Addressing TAFI members in Mumbai, Fernando Heredia Noguer, Consul General of Spain in Mumbai, said, “We have increased our visa processing capacity by 30 per cent in 2023 compared to 2022 and increased 40 per cent compared to the average of the four years before the pandemic! Turespaña has launched a new feature within the TRAVEL SAFE microsite of the official Spanish tourism portal www.spain.info, whereby international tourists who wish to go to Spain can consult the travel restrictions due to COVID-19 in the country, as well as the entry and exit requirements for their respective countries. TRAVEL SAFE microsite has included an information system, permanently updated on travel restrictions due to COVID-19, which allows to consult the information necessary to make any trip from 50 countries, including India, to Spain.

In order to protect potential long-term housing from being monopolised by tourist-oriented rentals, the city of Barcelona in Spain has proposed a new rule that will allow locals to rent rooms in their homes only for stays of 30 days or more. The city has already taken several measures to limit tourist accommodations made available through platforms like Airbnb.

The first edition of Tourism Innovation Summit 2020 (TIS), to be held from November 25-27 in the Spanish city of Seville, will bring together the brightest minds on travel and tourism to reveal key strategies and solutions for tourism recovery in 2021, including extensive health prevention protocols. Free antigen tests will be offered to attendees. In fact, this is the main safety measure and the principle demand from the tourism industry worldwide to all the competent authorities: antigen tests at origin and destination, to recover the confidence of travellers and tourists, as it is expected that the virus will not disappear in a short time.

The Spanish government, LaLiga and the Confederation of Employers & Industries of Spain have come together to promote Spain as a safe destination for tourism and sport. It’s ‘Safe Sport, Safe Tourism’ campaign will boost Spain’s tourism and sports industries, both so crucial to the economy.
