Visiting the North Eastern states of India have always been a mesmerising experience. Sharing the travelogue, am glad indeed to see the Indian Railways historical decision to run Bharat Gaurav Train in North East starting from March 21st is a cherry on the cake for travellers & readers. And, anothercommendable decision of appointment of Principal Secretary Tourism, Mizoram as the Director General, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India is a welcome move.
To begin with, the North-eastern States are known for its evergreen hills and dense bamboo jungles; and, Mizoram is a beautiful commercially unexplored destination for tourists to visit. Called as the Land of Blue Mountains, the hills are accompanied by gushing rivers and high sparkling waterfalls. Mizoram offers travellers a calm, serene environment with exciting outdoor activities in its lush green surroundings which offer breath-taking landscapes. Although every place is picturesque in its own way, however, am pleased to share places which one must visit in Mizoram, be it an Indian travellers or from abroad:
Tourists may also enjoy a tour to the nearby hilly areas of Hmuifang, Tamdil Lake and Chanmari, which offer mesmerizing scenic landscapes.
Lunglei is also a biodiverse region, home to Thorangtlang Wildlife Sanctuary and Saza Wildlife Sanctuary. While Saza Wildlife Sanctuary is famous for hosting migratory and endemic bird species, ThorangtlangWildlife Sanctuary is home to several animal species such as leopards, tigers, porcupines among many others.
Visiting the Lunglei Rock Bridge at the Nghasih stream is another popular activity while here. Saikuti Hall is a must-visit for ones who want to feel enriched with the culture and traditions of Mizoram!
Champhai has a number of tourist attractions mostly including natural settings. These include the Kungawrhi Puk cave, Tiau Lui River, Lianchhiari Lunglen Tlang cliff etc. Rih Dil Lake is another famous natural attraction known to Champhai. Adventure enthusiasts can alsoindulge in some trekking at the Thasiama Seno Neihna which is about 83kms south of Champhai.
Trekking to the Reiek peak is also an excellent activity tourists can enjoy. Since the peak of Reiek, which sits pretty as a pearl in the hills, is relatively unexplored. It comes to be a great opportunity to witness rare beauty. The Reiek Hills are also home to a tiny village inhabited by Mizos which is considered to be a heritage site. Apart from sightseeing, the hill is also a sanctuary for birdwatchers.
Mizoram is a relatively unexplored region of North-east India by tourists. It is a mesmerizing place to be. Tourism potential is huge, which is unfortunately untapped. However, right people and right place, and states will to make its name known to the world with increasing activities, positive approach, political will, and higly skilled people; state will soon be on the list of every traveller to visit at-least once in their lifetime. Indeed a perfect gateway from our busy city lives to seek peace and serenity.
Make sure you visit Mizoram and pick a traditional shawl as a souvenir for yourself, family, and friends!
