Naveen Kundu, MD, Ebixcash predicts that India will have a vast network of convention centers in 30 cities over the next decade, which will be a great attraction for global incentive travel, meetings, and conferences. Kundu highlighted India’s flourishing exhibition market and said, “It is very optimistic that India is going to be a booming MICE over the next 10 yrs.”

Mandeep Singh Lamba President (South Asia) HVS ANAROCK said, “We expect India-wide occupancy to improve to 66% in 2023 coupled with a 16-17% increase in ARR will push RevPAR to ₹4,690 during the year, almost 18% higher than the pre-pandemic RevPAR recorded in 2019.”

Tourism stakeholders in Kashmir hope the upcoming G20 meeting in Srinagar will lead to the lifting of travel advisories by the US and EU countries. The move could provide a boost to the tourism industry, said Syed Abid Rashid, Tourism Secretary, Jammu and Kashmir.

The recently released report by Visa and EY has revealed that India is expected to receive 30.5 million international travelers for spiritual purposes by 2028. It also says that there will be a huge surge in international spiritual tourism into India to complement domestic spiritual travel, which is estimated to be 60 percent of the total domestic travel in India.

The Lok Sabha passed additional amendments to Finance Bill, which mentions that any payment made with a credit card to foreign vendors (such as for hotel and airline bookings, gaming, subscriptions to software/magazines/memberships, etc.), will be subjected to TCS at 20% irrespective of the amount paid. Credit card payments for foreign travel can be now brought under RBI’s Liberalised Remittance Scheme, announced Nirmala Sitharaman in the Lok Sabha.  

The latest ICRA report has mentioned that for FY2022-23, domestic air passenger traffic was around 1360 lakh, a YoY growth of roughly 60%, and marginally lower by 4% compared to 1416 lakh in FY2019-20. It was up than ICRA’s estimate of 1300-1350 lakh.
