Low overseas promotion budget won’t help inbound tourism post border opening: Rajnish Kaistha

Rajnish Kaistha, Hony. Secretary, IATO, has said that the allocation for tourism budget for overseas promotions have been reduced, which in turn would affect the inbound business, especially when the borders open. “Government needs to allocate higher budgets for overseas promotion, publicity and marketing, along with MDA, because that is needed for our survival. The MDA gives us money to go and participate in the overseas trade shows and promotions abroad so that we get more tourists to start with and also do overseas marketing in an aggressive manner, for which higher budgets are needed. Any reduction in that is going to cause bigger damage in the long run and in the immediate future,” he says.

Entry protocols for tourists entering the Sultanate of Oman

The Sultanate of Oman has prepared to combat COVID-19 in accordance with His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq’s high directives to form a Supreme Committee to deal with the pandemic. The committee has issued multiple decisions on various aspects of reacting to the pandemic and has recommended precautionary measures. In order to minimise the transmission of the virus at any stage of the pandemic, standard measures must be followed in the preparation for the gradual restoration of tourism activity following the slow receding of COVID-19. In support of these initiatives, the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and travel and tourism agencies, has developed a set of preventative measures to avoid the spread of COVID-19 when the tourism industry reopens. The pre-arrival procedures are as follows: Make sure that COVID-19 safety information is included in tourist marketing and booking procedures. Tourists entering the Sultanate of Oman are required to provide a medical certificate or other permit. The Sultanate must be visited for no more than two weeks. A hotel or resort reservation is necessary in advance. Prior to arriving in the Sultanate, register in the Ministry of Health’s (Tarassud+) system. Upon arrival in the Sultanate, tourists will be subjected to a PCR test and be quarantined in a hotel until the test results are negative. A room or a separate area will be provided in the hotel or resort for each tourist or family. Making reservations online or through an electronic platform is preferable. Review tourism tax policy to boost India’s share in global market, says Parliament panel

The committee suggested that government rework its website in a more user-friendly manner in its report, that was tabled in Parliament. The tax policy applicable to the travel and tourism sector should be reviewed, according to parliamentary standing committee, in order to enhance India’s share in the global tourism market from 1.24 percent to 5%.

Vaccination pass required to access public spaces and touristic monuments in France as of Jan 24 for visitors aged 16 and above

As of 24 January, a ‘vaccination pass’ is now required for people aged 16 and over in almost all places where the Health Activity Pass was previously necessary. The ‘vaccination pass’ requires proof of double vaccination and A negative Covid-19 test (PCR or antigenic) will no longer be sufficient.  The “vaccination pass” does not apply to adolescents between 12 and 15 years of age. However, they are required to have a “health pass” to access the places mentioned above (bars and restaurants, leisure activities, large shopping centers, inter-regional transport). Vaccines accepted by France are those recognised by the European Medicines Agency: Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca/Vaxzevria/Covishield and Johnson & Johnson. Qatar Tourism announces new superyacht luxury cruises to set sail from Qatar

Qatar Tourism has announced new superyacht luxury cruises in partnership with Emerald Cruises, sailing from Doha launching in January 2023. Emerald Azzurra will offer a seven-night, eight-day itineraries from Doha, with stops at Sir Bani Yas Island, Abu Dhabi; Khasab, Oman; Fujairah, UAE; Zighy Bay, Oman; and Dubai and vice versa. Pre and post cruise tours are available where guests can opt for a three-day package to explore the sites and culture of Qatar. Highlights include the National Museum of Qatar, designed by French architect Jean Nouvel, in the style of a desert rose; or a visit to Souq Waqif, to purchase local souvenirs and spices. Visitors can take a trip into the desert and visit the Inland Sea, before enjoying dune bashing and a camel ride. The news comes as construction continues on the new Grand Cruise Terminal located in central Doha, near the Museum of Islamic Art and Souq Waqif. The terminal will have the capacity to host two megaships and will offer various attractions, including an aquarium and art gallery.
