KB Kachru, Chairman Emeritus & Principal Advisor, South Asia, Radisson Hotel Group (RHG) and Vice President, HAI, spoke at the 2nd International Conference on Hospitality and Tourism – Revival Strategies, and said that the industry needs to appreciate and boost the domestic tourism that has revived the sector after the pandemic. Thanking the govt to offer foreign tourists GST refund for local shopping, FHRAI has proposed to extend this to all shopping. Gurbaxish Singh Kohli, Vice President, FHRAI, says, “The government is considering piloting the system to offer GST refund on purchases made by foreigners at only Cottage Industries Emporium. This is a welcome move and we request that the benefit be extended to all purchases that they make in the country.”

The Indian hospitality sector witnessed strong growth in Q2 (April – June) 2022, according to JLL’s Hotel Momentum India (HMI) Q2, 2022. Revenue Per Available Room (RevPAR) witnessed an exponential growth of 339.3 % year-on-year (YoY) in Q2, 2022 over Q2 2021.

Goa tourism department has reduced the number of clearances or permissions that trades are required to attach at the time of registration. For a new hotel, an entity can get registration done by submitting three documents such as ownership document, CST registration, if applicable, and an identity proof; while no document needs to be submitted for renewal.

Rajeev Menon, president of Marriott International, Asia Pacific excluding Greater China (APEC), has said that despite business taking a hit worldwide, investments in India were very strong. “Our team, just in the last 18 months, signed 27 deals in India,” he claimed.

Steve Borgia, CMD, INDeco Leisure Hotels, has said that they are developing a hotel product with no buildings. “I want to call it The Last Resort built in a beautiful mountain river area. It will be in 100 acres and I’m planning to start this project in three months. We have just acquired the land for the same,” he said.
