The wrong perception about the NorthEast needs to be changed to attract more tourists to the region, said Prahlad Singh Patel, Minister of State (I/C) for Tourism and Culture, Government of India after inaugurating Lily festival in Manipur. He further said that despite being gifted with scenic beauty and rich cultural heritage, due to some wrong perceptions, the region is unable to attract tourists in large numbers.
“A collective effort is needed from all the stakeholders to explore ways to attract more tourists to the state,” he said.
Patel also said he has written to the Ministry of Human Resource Development whether it would be possible to make it compulsory for students of the central schools to visit the northeast at least once.
“One who has witnessed the region at a tender age would never forget it throughout his/her life,” he said.
