Jyoti Mayal has been elected as the President of Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI) for the term 2019-21. This was announced on November 28, 2019 at Hotel Sahara Star in Mumbai after TAAI’s 68th Annual General Meeting followed by the elections of the Office Bearers and members of the Managing Committee for the term 2019 – 2021. While Jay Bhatia was elected as the Vice President unopposed, Bettaiah Lokesh from Triway Travels is the Honorary Secretary General. Shreeram Patel of Unicorn Travels has been elected for the post of National Treasurer.
Jyoti Mayal, incoming President, TAAI, says, “My most important agenda is that we should have a very strong say with the government and the airlines. That can only happen when we are recognised as an industry. We need a unified procedure set by the government as to how we should operate as an industry. We will be able to achieve this only when we have the government on our side. Taxes are another thing which is very relevant like GST and TCS and we are suffering because of that. We are already in negotiations with the ministries and we are very hopeful that we will achieve our targets. There is also another thing that is very close to my heart and that is empowering women. Women are multi-taskers and we would like more women in the industry to be our members so that we as an association can achieve a lot.”
Sunil Kumar R, Outgoing President says, “I have served as the president of TAAI for three terms which is six years and it was something that has never happened before. When I see new people wanting to come and take over the TAAI leadership I felt I should make way for them and that’s why I did not contest for this term. I wish the new president all the very best. We must try and take TAAI forward, and more importantly, take our members forward.”
Jay Bhatia, the newly-elected Vice President, says, “I’m humbled that the members ensured I’m unopposed since they have the trust in me and the work delivered by me over the years towards the betterment of the trade. Our team led by Jyoti Mayal for the term 2019-21 is confident to deliver to all trade expectations to restore the glory of our industry. You are well aware of our knowledge, experience and connect with statutory bodies, tourism boards, airlines, hotels, cruise companies and visa facilitators. Our goals are to: empower members through continuous education, create a better and direct connect with the statutory authorities, resolve issues with our principals, educate, update and hand-hold all of you towards the changing scenario of NDC, OnePass, RHC, etc, enhance member trading power through Joint Bank Guarantee, re-create fair trading practices thereby creating more revenues, and enhance the value of being a TAAI member.”
