AirAsia is set to launch a new agent-friendly website which will allow ease of booking, easy payment options, self-managing booking allowing date change, instant refunds and other tools. The website is still under construction and might be launched within the next two months. This was announced at AirAsia India’s High Flyer Townhall conducted virtually, where the top-performing agent partners were recognised by the airline and were updated about AirAsia India’s latest initiatives, launches and future plans. Sunil Bhaskaran, CEO & MD, AirAsia India gave his keynote address and thanked the agents for their support. A recent survey conducted by Air Asia India has revealed that the daily industry passenger count for the airline is rising every day. So far in September, Air Asia India has witnessed 1.3 lakh passenger, which is 35 per cent of the capacity compared to same period last year. June-July was about returning home to small towns; Aug-Sept is about return back to metros. Travel sentiment among youth returning; business and leisure travel still to pick up. The AirAsia India Market Research on Festive Travel Intent indicates positive trends for flights, especially on safety.

Sanjay Kumar, who recently stepped down as COO of Air Asia India, will now be joining as Chief Strategy & Revenue Officer, IndiGo Airlines. Kumar was previously employed with IndiGo Airlines as Chief Commercial Officer till 2018, before his stint with Air Asia. With over 25 years of experience, Kumar has even worked with SpiceJet and erstwhile Sahara Airlines as well. The news has been confirmed by Kumar, who will reportedly be joining IndiGo very soon.

Air Asia India plans to increase its flight connectivity between Bengaluru, Pune and Goa. The low-cost carrier will now operate two flights from Bengaluru to Pune, adding to the frequency to its current one daily flight between these cities. Also, the airline will operate its fourth daily connection between Bengaluru and Goa, starting December 18. “Our flights from Bengaluru to Pune are doing extremely well, so are our three existing connections to Goa. We see immense demand in this sector. We are confident that this new connection is going to be well received by our guests,” said Amar Abrol, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Air Asia India. The Bengaluru-based budget carrier currently flies to 11 destinations with its two hubs in Bengaluru and New Delhi covering Chandigarh, Jaipur, Guwahati, Imphal, Pune, Goa, Vizag, Kochi and Hyderabad.

Tata Sons has entered into an agreement with Air Asia (India), Telestra Tradeplace and two of the directors of the Company, being S. Ramadorai (Chairman) and R. Venkataramanan, under which Tata Sons proposes to increase its stake in the company to 49 per cent from its existing stake of 41.06 per cent, by acquiring 7.94 per cent equity stake from Telestra. S. Ramadorai and R. Venkataramanan, in their individual capacity, propose to acquire 0.5 per cent and 1.5 per cent shareholding respectively of Telestra’s remaining 2 per cent equity stake in the Company. AirAsia Investment Ltd. will continue to hold its 49 per cent stake in the Company. The agreement was entered into on March 14, 2016, and the transaction is proposed to be completed in April, 2016, subject to completion of the relevant corporate approvals and processes.
