Manta Air announced the commencement of its first international flight between Dhaalu Airport in Maldives and Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru on 1 March, 2024. This new route will save 4-5 hours of tourists’ time as they can avoid the overtly crowded Velana International Airport of Maldives.

South India has become the major contributor to the business of Thomas Cook (India) Limited. Bengaluru-Karnataka has emerged as the company’s top source market for the leisure segment. Romil Pant, Executive Vice President & Business Head – Holidays, Thomas Cook (India) Limited, said, “We have launched a dedicated range of products to cater to the unique preferences of customers from this market and catalyze growth. We expect to see an uptick of 30% from Karnataka in 2024.”  

Jazeera Airways, Kuwait’s leading low-cost airline recently increased the frequency of its direct from Bangalore and Hyderabad. The airline now operates 4 flights per week from Bengaluru, and 6 flights per week from Hyderabad. Previously the airline operated two and three flights a week to these popular destinations. Since launching its India operations in October 2017 with Hyderabad, Jazeera Airways has progressively expanded to serve six Indian cities. Currently, the airline offers 24 direct flights each week from India to Kuwait and other destinations. Ministry of Tourism is organising a conference of Tourism and Culture Ministers of the Southern Region on 28th & 29th October 2021 in Bengaluru, Karnataka. Union Minister of Tourism and Culture G. Kishan Reddy and Chief Minister of Karnataka Basavaraj Bommai will address the event on 28th October 2021. The two days’ programme will have presentations by various Ministries to apprise the participants about the various projects and initiatives being taken by the Central Government for the development of the region.

VK Singh, Minister of State for Civil Aviation, has brought to light the many initiatives taken by his Ministry in the recent past. He says that these initiatives have not only helped overcome operating costs of the sector, but also facilitated both expansion of airports and skill development for which several centres have been set up, including those in Chandigarh, Mumbai and Bengaluru.

A Madurai couple took their wedding to the next level, when they booked an entire chartered flight from Madurai to Bengaluru and tie the knot mid-air. The couple, along with their families, relatives and guests were on the SpiceJet chartered flight, reveal photos and videos of the wedding that went viral online. Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has launched an inquiry into the mid-air ceremony.

A 150-bed oxygenated COVID-19 treatment centre – COV-AID@BLR – has opened at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru. Patients will be treated free of cost at the facility, however, the cost for medicines and tests would have to be borne by them apart from self-arranged ambulance service. COV-AID@BLR is open for the public and employees from the BLR Airport ecosystem.

IndiGo has joined hands with CarterPorter, to launch ‘6EBagport’, to provide door to door baggage delivery service starting April 1, 2021 in New Delhi and Hyderabad. The service, which starts at a nominal rate of INR 630 for one way, will subsequently be launched in Mumbai and Bengaluru as well. Passengers can book the service from the comfort of their homes. The facility will enable passengers to travel worry-free as CarterPorter will transfer their baggage contactless from one destination to another with added assistance inside the terminal. Sanjay Kumar, Chief Strategy and Revenue Officer, IndiGo said, “We are continuously striving to enhance our customer service and this collaboration is a step further towards providing a one-stop hassle-free experience. The service will bring relief to customers who may want to travel with additional baggage from home to airport or would like to go for a meeting directly from airport without carrying bags. Our partnership with CarterPorter will ensure that our customers have a seamless experience as their baggage gets transferred door to door while they fly onboard our lean, clean flying machine”.

First direct Bengaluru-Rajkot flight, operated by SpiceJet, was welcomed in the city with a water salute on 24th February, 2021. Hyderabad will also be connected with Rajkot from 1st March via SpiceJet. Flights between Goa and Rajkot will also start in March.
