G Kamala Vardhan Rao, Director General, Tourism, has revealed that the Ministry of Tourism is working towards increasing the number of guides and tourist facilitators by training them in a big way because the country will be taking residency for G20 from December onwards.

G Kamala Vardhan Rao, Director General, Ministry of Tourism, has said that the 3 Ts, as far as Tourism is concerned – Trade, Technology & Tourism, the mantra for the 5 Trillion economy. Speaking at the International Cruise Conference 2022, also said, “The promotion of coastal tourism through beach tourism, lighthouse tourism, and cruise tourism will help communities.”

In his address at the 36th IATO Convention in Gandhinagar, G Kamala Vardhan Rao, DG, Tourism, commented on the scare over the Omicron variant, and said that while the new variant is infectious, but not fatal. “We are sure that this will not be there for a longer time. We believe that by Feb-March we could see brighter days,” he added.

G Kamala Vardhan Rao, DG, Tourism, has said that every state is competing when it comes to tourism. “Every state has a different budget allocation in a big way. Hence when state governments worlk alongside central government, it’s a fine way of synergy and a way forward by developing products. Once product is developed, we are now seeing some green shoots after the pandemic,” he said.

G Kamala Vardhan Rao, Director General, Ministry of Tourism and CMD, ITDC, has said that they are concentrating on promoting, incentivising and prompting travel, which is needed to give a boost to the hotel sector, tour operators, guides, taxi drivers, and all the stakeholders who have lost jobs. “Our fundamental concern is to see that once the engine of tourism is on, all stakeholders in the tourism sector will be employed. Hence, our main concern is to gain this employment back, to gain the confidence levels of the hotels sector back to normalcy and gain the confidence of hoteliers and all the stakeholders in the tourism sector,” he said.

G Kamala Vardhan Rao has been given additional charge of the post of Director General (Tourism), Ministry of Tourism. He would remain as the Chairman & Managing Director, India Tourism Development Corporation Ltd. till appointment of a regular incumbent or until further orders, whichever is earlier. The announcement was made by Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.
