In collaboration with UNWTO, MOT to launch SDG Dashboard on 5th Sept at 5pm, with an aim to explore best avenues and insights from G20 countries as they work towards fostering sustainable and inclusive tourism.  

Rakesh Verma, Additional Secretary, MOT suggests promoting G20 places as major M!CE destinations. “All the destinations, where G20 meetings are taking place have established themselves as having infrastructure and capability to host meetings attracting more such activities”, he said.

The third G20 Tourism Working Group Meeting will be held in Srinagar from May 22 to 24, which will help in boosting tourist footfalls in Jammu and Kashmir. Arvind Singh, Secretary, Tourism, has said that the Ministry of Tourism will be releasing a National Strategy on Film Tourism during the meet.

Ahead of the 2nd Tourism Working Group Meeting, Harsh Vardhan Shingla, Chief Coordinator of G20 India, highlighted the opportunity for India’s North Eastern region to showcase its cultural heritage and tourism potential. At a press conference in Darjeeling, Shingla announced that 10 ambassadors from G20 nations would visit the area and engage with local stakeholders to discuss the region’s potential. 

Ministry of Tourism will organize its first Tourism Working Group meeting from 7-9 February 2023 in Rann of Kutch, Gujarat. Secretary of Tourism, Arvind Singh said that in G20, there are 5 interrelated priority areas for tourism. Accordingly, the thrust will be on these five priority areas i.e. greening of the tourism sector, harnessing the power of digitisation, empowering youth with skills, nurturing tourism MSMEs/ startups, and rethinking the strategic management of destinations. 

In a recent Tweet, Suresh Prabhu, former union minister for railways and civil aviation, said that in his meeting with Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, special Secretary, Ministry of AYUSH, “We discussed about how we can involve Ministry of AYUSH in the #G20 to promote Indian traditional medicines.”
