IndiGo is all set to start operating its direct flight to Mumbai from the Gaya airport from December 25. The new connection would boost Jain and Buddhist tourism in the region. Already, IndiGo is operating a daily flight between Delhi and Gaya. The Mumbai-Gaya flight will be operated four days a week – Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. There are reports of starting direct flights to Bengaluru and Kolkata from Gaya by next year. Bookings for the Mumbai flight have already started.

Thai AirAsia is introducing three new routes to Gaya, Bhubaneswar and Visakhapatnam from December 3, 6 and 7, respectively. The airline will operate four direct flights a week from Bangkok to Gaya on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. From Bhubaneswar to Bangkok, direct flights will operate thrice a week on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. Besides, flights from Vizag to Bangkok will operate on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. THAI Smile Airways has launched new flights to Gaya, Varanasi, Jaipur and Lucknow. The flights will gradually start operation from Bangkok to Gaya and Varanasi from October 1, Bangkok to Jaipur from November 15, and Bangkok to Lucknow from December 1, 2016. The airline has chosen Bird Group as its General Sales Agent (GSA) for the Indian market with immediate effect. The Bird Group will handle the airline’s sales development, bookings, and ticketing services within India as well as conduct direct marketing and service support to Indian travel agents. SpiceJet is all set to take more than 8000 pilgrims on special flights for the annual Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca from Gaya and Indore. It plans to deploy two Airbus 320 to carry pilgrims from Gaya and Indore respectively. The flights will be operated from the two Indian cities to Jeddah and Madina between August 4 and September 3, 2016. The return journey for the pilgrims back to Gaya is scheduled from September 17 and to Indore from September 30. The whole activity is expected to be executed by October 16, 2016. G. P.
