The Gujarat tourism department has set aside ₹200 crore to develop special tourism zones (STZ) in the state. These projects will include Dholavira, Shivrajpur, Sir Creek and border areas of Banaskantha, which will be developed as greenfield and brownfield projects in collaboration with private sector.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in MOT’s post budget webinar mentioned the Kankaria lake project in Ahmedabad, Gujarat where the redevelopment of the lake and skill development for those working in the food stalls was carried out. “Every tourist destination can also develop its own revenue model,” he said.

Statue of Unity in Kevadia, Gujarat, has got three new tourist attractions, which have been recently inaugurated PM Narendra Modi— the Maze Garden, Miyawaki Forest and a houseboat service, Ekta Houseboat in Ekta Nagar. The newly added tourist attractions are expected to bring many tourists to Narmada District.

Anjit Mukherjee, Deputy Manager, Tourism Corporation of Gujarat said with the celebrations of Rann Utsav in November-December this year, Gujarat anticipates to reach pre-pandemic levels. He further added that Gujarat never took a pause and has been continuously working on promoting itself even during the pandemic. 

The Gujarat government’s Seema Darshan project is being constructed as a major spot at Nada Bet in Banaskantha district. Jenu Devan, Managing Director, Tourism Corporation of Gujarat, said that the Seema Darshan project which was inaugurated in December 2016 at Nada Bet has already started receiving around 4,000-5,000 visitors during the weekends. “The tourism department is now trying to promote Nada Bet on the lines of the Wagah Border with not only a Retreat Ceremony, but also creating a two-three hours tour package for that entire area which will include a tourist facilitation centre, auditorium, museum, interpretation centres, and other amenities. Electric vehicles will be introduced that will take the tourists around the 25 km border area up to zero point where they will be allowed to take photographs,” he said.

Tourism stakeholders of the Andaman Islands, Gujarat and Karnataka have sought urgent financial relief from their respective state governments and tourism departments, while also suggesting measures of revival. Said representations have been made by Andaman Association of Tour Operators, Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Karnataka Tourism Society, respectively.
