Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Minister of Tourism, GOI, said, “Tourism has the potential to contribute to India’s achievement of being the third-largest economy. India has all the resources to present a world-class tourism sector. We are witnessing diversity and new business opportunities in this sector. The progress and development in this field are crucial.”

Suman Billa, Additional Secretary, Tourism, has said, “We need to think of Viksit Bharat 2047 and plan for the next five years in how to create a stronger tourism sector. Broadly we need to look at having a business plan sort of a strategy—where are we now? Where should we be in 2047? and What is the target that we set for ourselves over the next five years in terms of investment, job creation, promotion & publicity?”

The Sankalp Patra of the ruling BJP for 2024 promises to roll out various programs in the tourism sector to help generate employment. One among them is to showcase the richness of Indian weddings and highlight cultural exchanges through the ‘Wed in India’ campaign which will promote select destinations across India as preferred venues.

Addressing a Rozgar Mela, Narendra Modi, Prime Minister, said that India’s tourism sector alone is anticipated to contribute ₹20 lakh crore to the economy by 2030 and has the potential to create 13-14 crore new job opportunities by 2030.
