The Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Yunnan Provincial Department of Tourism and Culture on the second day of the ongoing 65th TAAI Annual Convention in Kunming, China. The objective was to promote tourism between India and Yunnan. Both the regions will work towards developing a framework for cooperation, acknowledging the success which resulted in the convention being organised in Yunnan province.

The Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI) has announced its 65th annual convention in the Kunming city of Yunnan province of China from November 27-29. In association with the Yunnan Provincial Tourism Development Commission (YPTDC), the maiden TAAI Convention in China will take place at InterContinental Kunming. On the occasion, Sunil Kumar, President, TAAI said, “This is an initiative to promote stronger tourism prospects in Yunnan. TAAI has been working towards a stronger connect with China.” The theme of the convention will revolve around strengthening friendship and tourism relationship with China.

Travel Agents Association of India (TAAI) has postponed its annual convention, which was scheduled from August 18-20 in Kunming, China. According to a communication shared by TAAI with its members, the association has said that they have not started the registration for the August convention, which was supposed to start on July 5, 2017, owing to few pending approvals and airline seat confirmations. Hence, TAAI has decided to hold the convention at a later date. The new dates and schedule of the convention will be announced soon.

Air India has a market share of 17 per cent in the North East, which seemingly is a profitable sector for the airline. Ashwani Lohani, Chairman & Managing Director, Air India informed that while some sectors are not profitable in the North East, overall the operations remain gainful as they get a viability gap funding from North Eastern Council (NEC). He also informed that they are considering to operate a direct flight between Guwahati and Bangkok or between Guwahati and Kunming thrice a week. He informed that they are planning to start a new flight between New Delhi and Guwahati from June 28, taking the number of flights on this route to two. Also the Guwahati-Kolkata flight is most definitely on the cards.

Shangdong Airlines is now operating four flights per week from New Delhi to Kunming, Jinan, and Qingdao in China. Wang Shuai, General Representative of India, Shandong Airlines, said, “This is our new flight route. We now have four flights per week to Kunming, Jinan, Qingdao. Monday and Friday, the flights have been scheduled to fly to Kunming, Jinan. While on Wednesday and Sunday they have been scheduled to fly to Qingdao, Kunming.” Shandong Airlines started operations in India in November 2015, and is using the Boeing 737-800 aircraft, which has 160 economic and eight business class seats. “The time for the Delhi to Kunming flight is four hours, while that of Delhi to Jinan, Qingdao flight is eight hours,” he said. Shuai added, “Our flight will arrive at Qingdao and Jinan in late night. Therefore, we provide free hotel for transit passengers. Passengers can take Shandong Airlines domestic flights in the next morning to Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, almost all the large-medium cities in China.”
