Reacting to the Union Budget which has been announced today, Gajesh Girdhar, National Coordinator, NIMA, said, “We welcome some of the initiatives proposed in the Union Budget such as the government’s continuous focus on the development of domestic and inbound tourism, encouragement to the Indian cruise tourism industry by offering a simpler tax regime for foreign shipping companies looking to operate and lease the vessels in Indian waters. This is a significant move not only for domestic tourists but also to attract foreign tourists, who always look for new cruise destinations.” Giving a further boost to religious tourism, the Finance Minister has emphasised developing new destinations in Gaya and Bodh Gaya. However, there is no mention of any specific concession on GST and TCS for Indian Outbound Travellers to the dismay of the Tour Operator Fraternity, Girdhar further said.

Gajesh Girdhar has been elected as the National Coordinator of NIMA. He shared, the association is now focusing on driving more membership and expanding the team. “Our main goal is to attract a larger number of individuals from tier III and tier IV cities. We anticipate a growth rate of 20 to 25% from these areas. We aim to increase our overall membership by 50%, with 25% of that growth coming from these cities”. In order to achieve this, the association is actively promoting its membership through various activities. “Our MICE forum, which has been successfully running for the past two years, has generated significant interest in membership. The positive word-of-mouth from last year’s event in Jaipur and this year’s event in Amritsar has led to an increase in online applications for membership,” he added. Furthermore, the associations’ regional coordinators are also making dedicated efforts to attract new members from remote areas. Their commitment and hard work are crucial in bringing in more memberships. NIMA is currently focusing its efforts on the upcoming convention at Resort World, which will take place from August 6th to August 10th. This event is supported by Singapore Tourism, IHG Hotels and Resorts, Resort World Cruises, and Yorker Holidays.

We are pleased to announce the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding with the St. Petersburg Convention Bureau. This is a step forward after we had a similar agreement with the Moscow City Tourism Corporation, where we agreed to promote Russia as a MICE-friendly destination for all of the movement coming from India. This is a bilateral movement because this understanding will promote MICE both within and outside of India.
