A parliamentary panel has observed that out of the total 45 sanctioned projects under the PRASHAD scheme only 20 have been completed, noting that its progress is very slow. The committee has suggested MOT to evolve its mechanism to collect data on the arrival of foreign and domestic tourists.

South African Tourism Roadshow 2024 to commence its multicity roadshow in India on 11 Feb from Jaipur. The other cities include Delhi, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, and Mumbai. The roadshow will share its redefined approach to enable the trade partners to tap into India’s growing outbound market.

“India holds a special place in Korea’s strategic outreach. Building on incredible success of 1.2 lakh Indian visitors in 2023, we are setting an ambitious goal of welcoming 2 lakh travellers from India in 2024,” said Myong Kil Yun, Regional Director, India & SAARC, Korea Tourism Organization (KTO).

Trevolution reported a growth in demand for trans-Pacific flights highlighting 22 per cent increase in India’s inbound tourism compared to pre-pandemic time. Another key highlight was a 179 per cent increase in outbound travel from India boosting job opportunities in the industry.

Saada Abdullah Saif Al Harthi, Director for Business Development Department, Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, Sultanate of Oman, shared, India is the second-largest source market for Oman. The Sultanate aims to do joint collaborations pan India, including tier 2 and tier 3 cities.

Akmal Aziz, Deputy Director, Tourism Malaysia said, “In response to rising demand, the Malaysian government is negotiating with the Indian government to enhance the number of slots available under the bilateral aviation agreement. Following feasibility studies and market research, airlines are also considering launching new flights from tier II and III cites. Hopefully, flight frequency will increase in 2024.”

Abhishek Sonthalia, MD, Turtle Down Under, mentions that in the month of August 2023 there were 7,195 visitors coming to New Zealand from India. It is 191.3% return of arrivals as compared to August 2019 in an exclusive interview.

Datuk Musa, Deputy Director General of Promotion, Malaysia said, “We are exploring opportunities in tier II & III cities in India to enhance traffic both into Malaysia and India. Malaysia has always been a popular destination for Indian travellers particularly for pilgrimage or leisure holidays

Peter Semone, Chairman, PATA, has said that PTM 2023 has attracted over 1000 delegates from 46 global destinations, which includes 159 sellers from 92 organisations and 15 destinations, along with 196 buyers from 191 organisations and 38 source markets.
