Surwaya’s Garhi has a unique beauty

The historic Surwaya fort is located in the village of Surwaya, 22 kilometers from Shivpuri. It is located in Madhya Pradesh’s Shivpuri district. ‘Saraswati Pattam’ was its previous name. King Avantivarman’s Guru Purandar built it in the ninth and tenth centuries to teach Shaivaism. This monastery is really old. This is an ancient monastery which is also considered as Saraswati temple. Surrounded by huge walls like a fort, this monastery has a room made of huge rock blocks which was used for the residence and study of teachers and students. The carvings and workmanship on the walls of this fort are the finest examples of Hindu architecture. Surwaya fort is an ancient fort.
