Uttar Pradesh Chapter of IATO conducted two chapter meetings in Varanasi and in Agra on 21st of July and on the 26th of July respectively. Both the meetings were attended by about 40 members of IATO at each location and many attendees were new members who have recently joined IATO from UP. Uttar Pradesh is a very important state and in the last financial year only it has added 35 new members to the impressive membership list of IATO. Both the meetings were conducted by Prateek Hira, the Chapter Chair of Uttar Pradesh. Guest of Honour in Varanasi meeting was Rajendra Rawat, Deputy Director – UP Tourism and similarly In the Agra Meeting the Guest of Honour was Deepti Vatsa, Regional Tourist Officer along with Harish Kumar of Ministry of Tourism, GoI. Regional Chapter Chair, Sunil C. Gupta presided over the Agra meeting along with Prateek Hira. Uttar Pradesh Chairman of IATO and Varanasi meeting was chaired by Prateek Hira. The meetings discussed and deliberated on issues and problems faced by members in the state of Uttar Pradesh and solutions to these were instantly provided by the attending government officers and the IATO’s Regional chairmaen Sunil C. Gupta and UP Chapter Chairman Prateek Hira. Sunil C. Gupta enumerated the achievements of IATO and invited all members to register for the upcoming IATO Convention in Bhopal and take advantage of the knowledge sessions and familiarization tours planned thereafter. Prateek Hira on another hand spoke about the schemes of the governments and informed the members how each of them can take advantage of the schemes after registering with the state government. Ahead of festivals, Prakhar Mishra, Director Tourism, Uttar Pradesh, pointed out that the state is expecting a significant surge in pilgrim arrivals to Ram Lalla Temple, Kashi Vishwanath corridor, and Mathura-Vrindavan corridor. Varanasi alone saw a record-breaking influx of 95.63 lakh pilgrims in March.

Kayak revealed, Varanasi has seen a substantial 102% increase in flight searches despite a 7% rise in flight prices as compared to 2022. The culturally significant, ancient city of Madurai has also witnessed a 97% increase in flight searches even with a 22% price increase compared to last year.   

Arvind Singh, Secretary, Tourism has said, “Varanasi, infrastructure development has resulted in a 10X increase in footfalls compared to pre-Covid levels, according to statistics shared by UP government. Jammu & Kashmir has seen the highest ever footfall in 75 years of independence.”

Buddha Air has started twice-a-week direct operations between Kathmandu and Varanasi. The flights have been resumed post-COVID and will be flying on Monday and Friday every week. On arrival of the first flight, Ministry of Tourism’s India Tourism Varanasi office welcomed the tourists with rose and anagavastra.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the much-awaited Rudraksh convention centre at Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh. In a tweet, the PM said, “I am delighted to be inaugurating the Rudraksh convention centre in Varanasi. Constructed with Japanese assistance, this state-of-the-art centre will make Varanasi an attractive destination for conferences thus drawing more tourists and businesspersons to the city.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has flagged off eight new trains from various destinations to Kevadiya in Gujarat, boosting connectivity to the Statue of Unity town. These trains connect Kevadiya to Varanasi, Dadar, Ahmedabad, H. Nizamuddin, Rewa, Chennai and Pratapnagar.

An international convention centre ‘Rudraksh’ is being built with Indo-Japan collaboration in Varanasi, which is part of 100 major projects within the financial out flow of around Rs.8000 crores being undertaken in the city. Other projects include hospital buildings, national waterways, ring roads, by-pass, etc. The same was revealed in a statement by Prime Minister’s Office, where the PM reviewed development in Varanasi, which is his parliamentary constituency.

SpiceJet has announced the launch of 12 non-stop flights and frequencies from January 20. The airline, in a statement, said, “With the new flights, passengers from Dehradun, Jammu, Jaipur, Amritsar, Varanasi, Madurai and Vijayawada can now easily travel to a host of other cities.” It said, “SpiceJet will be the first Indian carrier to introduce daily direct flights on the Dehradun-Jammu, Dehradun-Jaipur and Dehradun-Amritsar routes,” . The airline has also enhanced frequencies on the Jaipur-Varanasi (2nd frequency), Chennai-Madurai (4th frequency) and Hyderabad-Vijayawada (3rd frequency) sectors. The flights on all the routes are daily, except on the Chennai-Madurai route, where the flights will not operate on Tuesdays. Source: PTI
