Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Union Minister of Culture and Tourism, speaking at PHDCC’s 1st Wedding Tourism Summit & Expo said, “India’s wedding industry is poised to drive the economic growth. About 54 per cent of India’s population is under 30 years and a large part of household income is spent on weddings.”

Manisha Saxena, DG Tourism, Government of India, recently shared, “It’s encouraging to see not only five-star hotels but also smaller venues coming up with unique ideas to enhance wedding experiences in India. With the vastness of the industry and the significant number of weddings in the country, there’s room for everyone to contribute. While high room rates in India may be prompting some weddings to move abroad, it’s crucial to offer venues that cater to various budgets and preferences. While five-star hotels are ideal for large weddings, affordability remains a consideration for many.”

To accelerate wedding tourism in Rajasthan, the state tourism department has announced to provide the luxury train, Palace on Wheels, for destination weddings. It will be available for pre and post-wedding shoots. This will increase revenue for the train and will create new opportunities in the tourism sector.

Speaking at an event, Manisha Saxena, DG Tourism, Government of India, shared, “While high room rates in India may be prompting some weddings to move abroad, it’s crucial to offer venues that cater to various budgets and preferences. The India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC) has unveiled its mascot: ‘Adyant,’ and a new tagline, representing their strategic move which is aimed at enhancing brand recognition. ITDC also plans to promote The Ashok as a wedding venue, aligning with the wedding tourism campaign.

“We are promoting weddings via ‘I do’ campaign, so we support PM’s view on overseas weddings. But, there is need for infra improvement. All the monuments, Goa beaches, heritage sites should be open for weddings,” strongly appeals Rajeev Jain, Director, Rashi Entertainment.

Rajeev Jain, Director, Rashi Entertainment, said, “Just as we are invited by various governments, we urge our government to bring wedding planners from abroad to India and showcase our country to them, illustrating how and where they can organize weddings.  

EEMA is collaborating with the MOT to formulate a strategy for wedding tourism. Prerana Agarwal Saxena, Lead, EEMA Wedding Council, SAID, “This strategy comprises a 10-point agenda recommended by EEMA to the ministry and is expected to be finalized by the end of this year.”

Furthermore, renowned properties such as Crown Plaza Muscat, W Muscat, Jumeirah, Al Bustan Palace, Shangri-La, Sheraton, Alila, and Anantara Jabal Akhdar showcased their respective venues suitable for weddings. Anantara Al Baleed Resort Salalah went above and beyond by arranging a picturesque wedding dinner setup on the beach for the wedding planners, leaving them pleasantly surprised and thoroughly delighted with the beachside dining experience. These experiences led the wedding planners to perceive Oman as an ideal destination for Indian weddings, owing to its luxurious offerings, hassle-free visa procedures, and excellent accessibility. The culinary experiences at all the properties were greatly appreciated by them.
