Naveen Kundu, MD, Ebixcash predicts that India will have a vast network of convention centers in 30 cities over the next decade, which will be a great attraction for global incentive travel, meetings, and conferences. Kundu highlighted India’s flourishing exhibition market and said, “It is very optimistic that India is going to be a booming MICE over the next 10 yrs.”

Naveen Kundu, Managing Director, EBIXCASH Travel Services said, “A lot of Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities in India should be developed for MICE. I firmly believe, India has the potential to give the world 100 wonderful cities for MICE and the world should look forward to it.”

Subhash Goyal, Chairman, STIC Travel Group, said “People have started to organise MICE events and weddings in India due to the difficulty of obtaining European visas and high airfares, which is a positive change for the Indian market.” 

NIMA held M!CE Forum 2022 in Jaipur from 29-31 July. Anand K Tripathi, Addl. Director, Rajasthan Tourism said that M!CE has huge potential. Jagdeep Bhagat, National Coordinator, NIMA, said, “The event offered a good networking opportunity to the members from across India. The idea behind this forum is to update the members about the opportunities in the industry and what’s going on in the world.”

Dame Judith Macgregor, Chair, British Tourist Authority (BTA), has said that with travel to UK from India resuming, the MICE business and group travel will also resume soon. “The Indian travel trade representatives I met in Dubai also want that. We are partnering with a many people to put out good messages focused on the MICE market. We had MeetGB recently and there are a number of great locations across Britain to hold events,” she said.  

The Israel Ministry of Tourism, India Office will conduct a virtual presentation for the Indian travel trade on Tuesday, 13 July at 3pm IST. Highlighting the importance of the India market for Israel, Sammy Yahia, Director of Tourism (India & Philippines), Israel Tourism, says, “In the last year, the travel industry around the world has experienced significant challenges, especially in the Indian trade. With new travel relaxations being introduced every day I believe that in the next few years, India will lead the international travel boom with many Indian travellers itching to experience new international destinations.  Before the pandemic, Israel welcomed over 65,000 tourists from India, setting a new record for us. I feel that in the coming months and year, when things normalise, we will double the number of arrivals from India to Israel.”

The Tourism Office of Spain – Mumbai will conduct a webinar ‘Returning to Sevilla’ on 8th April at 3pm IST for travel trade professionals to showcase MICE experiences in Sevilla by representatives from the Congress and Convention Bureau Sevilla. Speaking at The Art of Travel roadshow in Delhi, Rajeev Kale, President & Country Head – Holidays, MICE, Visas, Thomas Cook India, said, “Corporates have realised the importance of physical MICE events. MICE is an art and this art is going to be experienced by travelling. There is no alternative to a physical MICE event. It will bounce back heavily and we need to be prepared for it.”

About 700 participants are expected at the SingapoReimagine MICE Virtual Show, an event organised by Singapore Tourism Board for local and international MICE players to connect and showcase their offerings. This is its first such collaboration with local MICE players. The two-day event will be held from 3 to 4 March 2021 and is part of Singapore’s efforts to catalyse the MICE industry’s recovery and generate business opportunities for its partners. The event will see up to 40 suppliers like hotels, convention centres and tour operators. Exhibitors include Gardens by the Bay, Singapore Airlines and Sentosa Development Corporation. The top 5 voted buyers will each win a hosted trip to Singapore on Singapore Airlines, inclusive of a hosted stay and exclusive experiences.
