TAAI AP & Telanaga delegation seeks revial package

A delegation led by TAAI AP and Telangana Chairman Nagesh Pampati met Telangana Tourism Minister, V. Srinivas Goud and submitted representation seeking a revival package for the tourism industry. The minister has assured government support in reviving the sector. The delegation urged the minister and sought his support to advise the banks to offer tourism industry interest-free loans upto Rs 25 Lakhs to be repaid back in the next three financial years.

FHRAI requests banquet halls be opened for mass immunisation of corporate sector

Federation of Hotel & Restaurant Associations of India (FHRAI), in a letter to the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MoHFW), has suggested making necessary changes in the vaccination guidelines to include banquet halls in hotels as venues for mass immunization of the corporate sector. FHRAI has stated that banquet halls in hotels are better equipped than schools, colleges, or community halls for the purpose.

IATO disappointed on GST Council not considering its tax rationalising request

In a statement, IATO said that it is hugely disappointed that its request for rationalising GST and cascading impact it causes on the tourism industry was not even discussed in the GST Council meeting. The apex-inbound tourism association hoped that the government and GST council would sympathise and do its bit in providing relief to the tourism sector.

ATOAI to expand its reach, identifies 5 states for new Chapter formation

Vishwas Makhija, President, ATOAI has said that his association is finding ways forward to create new Chapters at the state level. “We have identified five states where we will go forward with our detailed Chapter formation and have ATOAI-representative on the ground in every state. There will be 2 liason each from the local association, state government and tourism authorities,” he said.

Goa operators ask subsistence allowance of Rs. 5,000-6,000 for tourism employees

Travel and Tourism Association of Goa (TTAG), with probability of hotels not being able to reopen for two to three months more in the state, have asked for Rs. 5,000 to 6,000 as subsistence allowance for 1.4 lakh people directly employed in hotels and tour companies. “It won’t suffice to meet their needs, but at least it will be of some help,” said Nilesh Shah, President, TTAG.

ADTOI to arrange vaccination camps for members, offer reimbursement for shots

PP Khanna, President, ADTOI, has said that since many of their members could not get vaccination, owing to shortage of vaccines, the association has tied up with hospitals to organise vaccination camps for its members on a pan-India basis. “This will be provided to members at a special rate. To elevate the financial burden on the members, we have decided to give a subsidy to all primary members by reimbursing 50% of what they spend on getting vaccinated, whether it’s the first shot or second shot or both, to the maximum limit of  Rs 600 for each shot within a period,” he adds.

Kashmir tour operators ask for revival package

Tour operators from Kashmir Tourism Trade Bodies Joint Forum (KTTBJF) have demanded some measures that need to be taken by the Government for the revival of the tourism industry in J&K. They demanded that tour and travel operators have gained popularity and need to be recognised as a tourism unit and all the industrial benefits must be given to the tour operators as are given to the hoteliers. They also urged that the tourism incentive scheme should be extended for the next 15 years and travel agents and tour operators should be included, and all the pending cases should be cleared at the earliest. They also demanded a waiver on the GST and claimed that the Government should first let the tourism sector breathe first. They also pointed out that the adventure tour operators are going through many problems and for the last 3 years they have not been able to pay the bank EMIs of the loans they have taken for increasing the infrastructure for adventure tourism.

HAI writes to PM appealing to extend help for the hospitality sector

Hotel Association of India (HAI) has written to the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for immediate intervention to provide relief to the hospitality industry which is on the verge of collapse, in five key areas—one-time settlement of loans and extension of loan moratoriums till September 2021, waiver of all statutory liabilities at Centre, State and Municipal levels for the pandemic period, stimulus package subsidising of salaries of hotel employees, according ‘Infrastructure Status’ and to bring Tourism & Hospitality to the concurrent list of the Constitution. In its request HAI pointed out that over 40% of hotels have shut or are on the brink of closure and 70% of overall jobs are now in danger directly or indirectly.

COVID-19 certificates for international travel must be free, universally available: UNWTO

 The World Committee on Tourism Ethics, an independent cell of the General Assembly of the World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO), has said that vaccines should not form part of vaccination holiday packages and must remain a global public good. The committee believes that the COVID-19 certificates for international travel must be free and available to all without any discrimination. UNWTO adopted a few recommendations on such certificates for global travel under the Chairmanship of Pascal Lamy. They have also recommended that these certificates must be limited in time and use.
