EbixCash to take over inbound holiday business of Cox & Kings: Robin Raina

Robin Raina, President & CEO, Ebix Inc and EbixCash has said that EbixCash Travel will be taking over all the inbound holiday business of Cox & Kings and the company has got the former COO of Cox & Kings, JP Singh on board for that, who will also lead one of the division of the company. He also announced that the travel vertical of his company is gearing up for aggressive marketing initiatives to promote and popularise itself in the Indian market. During an interaction organised for industry stakeholders after the conclusion of company’s two-day global conference in New Delhi, Raina said that EbixCash will do advertisement campaigns on Radio and TV. “We have partnered with Republic TV for exclusive branding via its studio. We are also sponsoring the IPL team Kings XI Punjab and Delhi Capitals. Many more exciting updates are yet to follow,” he said. He also announced at the event that Arjun Seth, formerly associated with Pearl Travels is going to lead the B2B operations at EbixCash Travel in India. While, Swaminathan Vedaranyam will continue to look after international B2B operations and Via.com (B2C). Similarly, Naveen Kundu will continue to look after Mercury- A Luxury Initiative by EbixCash and the corporate, luxury & MiC travel business of the company. Etihad and Air Arabia to launch new LCC- Air Arabia Abu Dhabi

Etihad Aviation Group and Air Arabia, have joined hands to launch a new Low Cost Carrier (LCC), called Air Arabia Abu Dhabi. The new airline would be offering increased budget travel options to travellers going to and from the UAE. Currently Etihad and Air Arabia operate a combined fleet of 162 aircraft, including 109 by the former and 53 by the latter. Air Arabia flies to 170 destinations across 50 countries through its Sharjah, Morocco and Egypt hubs while Etihad flies to 80 destinations. Tony Douglas, group CEO of Etihad Aviation Group, said the carrier will offer passengers a new option for low-cost travel to and from Abu Dhabi. “We look forward to the launch of the new airline in due course,” he said.  Adel Al Ali, group CEO of Air Arabia, said the UAE has developed over the years to become a leading travel and tourism hub and this partnership will further serve the growing low-cost travel segment locally and regionally.”

Indian expenditure on outbound tourism grows by 7% in 2018: Report

According to a recent report, Tourism Source Market Insight: India by ResearchAndMarkets.com, Indian expenditure on outbound tourism is growing at a substantial rate. Total outbound expenditure grew from US$23.7 bn in 2017 to US$25.4 bn in 2018, at a YOY increase of 7%. The report also states, Indian residents between the age of 35 and 49 took the most holidays in 2018. Indian residents within the 25 to 34 age range are one of the quickest growing market segments in terms of traveling.

ITB Asia break records with 1,300+ exhibitors & 1,250+ buyers at this year’s show

ITB Asia opened its doors at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre in Marina Bay Sands, Singapore. Over the next three days from 16 – 18 October 2019, the show will see organisations from across the travel industry gathering to establish contacts and conduct business. Trials for body scanner at security check start at Pune Airport

Pune Airport becomes one of the 1st AAI Airport to start the trials of body scanner for security check. Pune Airport has recently updated that this measure will ensure improved intelligence input for screeners which will enhance the security setup. It will also bring down the waiting time at the security point. The Centre has directed 84 airports across the country to install body scanners by March 2020, replacing existing door frame metal detectors and hand-held scanners besides pat-down searches of passengers to detect metallic objects, according to an official document.

Russian outbound tourism market grows by 2 million trips in 2018: MITT

A recent report by Moscow International Travel & Tourism Exhibition states, following a successful year in 2017 when outbound trips from Russia rose 25%, growth of another 5.8% was seen in 2018, bringing the total up to 42 million trips. In 2017, 40 million trips were made by Russians abroad. Despite the slower pace, outbound tourism in Russia continues to rise. Russians remain as one of the highest spending groups in the world. The statistics were released by Russian Federal State Statistics Service.
