Maharashtra is set to become the first Indian state to buy land in union territory of Jammu and Kashmir to construct a tourist facility for the state’s people. Maharashtra Bhawan will be constructed in central Kashmir’s Budgam–first-ever state Bhavan in the valley on 2.5 acres of land at Ichgam, near Srinagar airport. The Jammu and Kashmir government has approved the transfer of land to the Maharashtra government for ₹8.16 crore.

Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal announced the approval ₹645 crore for 10 new waterways projects on Brahmaputra in Assam. The projects include the construction of six tourist jetties in Jogighopa, Tejpur, Bishwanathghat, Neamati, Sadiya, and Bindakota.

The Uttar Pradesh tourism department has signed an agreement with rural homestay providers to offer better experience to the tourists visiting the spots located in rural areas. Visitors will get local experiences like farm stays, cuisine, and folklore. Govt is subsidizing these homestays and converting villages into rural tourism centers.

As per the India State Ranking Survey by Hotelivate in collaboration with World Travel & Tourism Council, India Initiative (WTTCII), Gujarat experienced the most significant upward shift in rankings, moving up by 7 positions. Telangana demonstrated a remarkable shift, advancing from the 27th to 6th position, more than doubling its tourism spending. On the other hand, Punjab experienced a contrasting trend, dropping from the 9th to the last position.

Maharashtra Tourism will soon table a draft of tourism policy before the state cabinet for approval proposing to come up with a dedicated tourism zone. The proposed zone will have amusement parks, hotels, and restaurants, and provisions for allocating 1,000 acres of land for the same near the Navi Mumbai International Airport.

To accelerate wedding tourism in Rajasthan, the state tourism department has announced to provide the luxury train, Palace on Wheels, for destination weddings. It will be available for pre and post-wedding shoots. This will increase revenue for the train and will create new opportunities in the tourism sector.

The Indian market Is likely to double in the next five years, said Noor Ahmed Hamid, CEO of PATA, while speaking at a PATA India event in New Delhi. He said, “However, it will not reach the size of China and will remain the third-largest in the world. India is growing on the domestic front with its population propelling business of tourism in India.”

After the inauguration of Ram temple, Ayodhya is expected to receive 10.61 crore tourists annually by 2031. As a result, Ayodhya will, “require an inventory of 8,500-12,500 branded keys to cater to the soaring demand in the holy city,” as per the report by Hotelivate, a leading hotel management consultancy.

Manta Air announced the commencement of its first international flight between Dhaalu Airport in Maldives and Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru on 1 March, 2024. This new route will save 4-5 hours of tourists’ time as they can avoid the overtly crowded Velana International Airport of Maldives.

Himachal Pradesh witnessed an increase in the number of tourist arrivals despite heavy rainfalls and landslides. As per the state tourism department, 1.60 crore tourists, including 62,806 foreigners, visited the state in 2023 as compared to 1.51 crore tourists, including 29,333 foreigners, in 2022.
