ITA Airways and Turkish Airlines jointly declares the commencement of codeshare partnership that will be effective within July 2023. The signed agreement between the two flag carriers will be offering flexibility in terms of flight choices for customers of both airlines between Italy and Türkiye. Through this codeshare partnership, ITA Airways’ marketing flight numbers will be placed on Turkish Airlines’ flights between Rome and Istanbul; and Turkish Airlines will place its marketing numbers on 9 destinations of ITA Airways within Italy from Rome, including Brindisi, Bari, Catania, Florence, Genoa, Palermo, Lamezia Terme, Turin and Trieste. Mr. Bilal Ekşi, CEO, Turkish Airlines, said “Rome and Istanbul have always been exceptional cities to attract and connect people. I firmly believe this codeshare agreement between Turkish Airlines and ITA Airways will be developing the existing network with even more destinations and foster cooperation and traffic between two countries with high potential”. He also informed how this partnership is a way to generate positive energy for tourism, expand Turkish Airlines’ reach and enhance customer benefits. Fabio Lazzerini, CEO and General Manager, ITA Airways, “With the codeshare partnership with Turkish Airlines, ITA Airways’ commercial strategy of growth makes a step forward, together with the existing partnerships with the world’s leading carriers”. “This partnership opens up a privileged access route to Istanbul, one of the most fascinating and historically rich cities in the world for all ITA Airways passengers. This agreement represents the Company’s 32nd codeshare: an excellent result we have achieved in less than two years”, he added.

Arvind Singh, Secretary, Tourism, has said that during G-20 Presidency, MOT has planned a number of events, engaging not only government stakeholders, but also travel trade and hospitality sector. “We plan to promote green tourism, open 50 new tourism destinations and soon launch a publicity campaign in overseas markets during our presidency,” he informed.

Arvind Singh, Secretary, Tourism, will be superannuating on 31 May, 2023 and the position will be taken up by V. Vidyavathi, lAS, who is currently serving as Director General, Archaeological Survey of India, Ministry of Culture. She has been appointed as Officer on Special Duty, Ministry of Tourism in the rank. Vidyavathi is an IAS officer of Karnataka Cadre, 1991 batch and joined as DG-ASI in May 2020.

Manisha Saxena, DG, Tourism, has said that digital presentation of strengths is very important as a destination and a lot of states have done some good work on it. “Almost everyone has a website and a tourism app. However, challenge of digitalization is how to combine all of it with the places where all the action is,” he said.

Manisha Saxena, Director General, Tourism said, “Word of mouth publicity and international showcasing, as part of the G20 Presidency events, will go a long way in promoting tourism as a whole and we need to take this opportunity to also learn from international experience and see what we can do better to leverage this as our strength.” 

Rakesh Verma, Additional Secretary, Tourism, has said that after the post-budget webinar, it was visible that tourism cannot move forward without convergence because it’s a cross-sectoral thing as it has many more domains and support of many other departments is necessary.

Arvind Singh, Secretary, Tourism, said at the MOT webinar that Public private partnerships can be realized in various segments of tourism ranging from accommodation transportation, food development of attractions, adventure and recreational activities.

Arvind Singh, Secretary, Tourism has said that  based on the discussions at the last G-20 tourism working group meeting,  the members will distill the proceedings and draw the roadmap for further deliberations  on the 5 priorities at the next working group meeting which will be held in April at Siliguri.
