Development strategy for the North East India needs be very clear: Rupinder Brar

Speaking at a webinar on developing tourism in Mizoram, Rupinder Brar, ADG, Ministry of Tourism, said that her ministry wants to make a difference in the next two months. “It is a high priority at the ministry, for us, to take up the development and promotion of tourism in the north east region. We are also exploring with MoCA, adding more routes on the Viability Gap Funding by the MoT for priority areas. Once the plan of action is worked out, we will deep-dive and start. The NE is one of the most beautiful parts of India and so much needs to be done,” she said.

MOT’s PRASHAD scheme to enhance Parasuram Kund development in Arunachal Pradesh: Reddy

G Kishan Reddy, Union Minister of Tourism, Culture and DoNER, has said that the PRASHAD scheme being implemented by MOT will enhance development of the renowned Parasuram Kund in Arunachal Pradesh. “The total amount sanctioned is of Rs 37.87 Cr that will ensure necessary infrastructural development of the iconic destination,” he said in a tweet.

Indian Govt plans to resume tourist visas in a phased manner

In an attempt to enhance the economic system as Covid-19 circumstances within the nation are improving, the Central government is contemplating to resume issuing tourist visas very quickly, confirmed a Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) official on Wednesday. A senior MHA official confirmed that issues have been formalised and a gathering has been known as within the Ministry of Home Affairs that shall be chaired by the Home Secretary on Thursday to talk about plans to resume tourist visas, according to ANI recent tweet.

MoCA Joint Secretary emphasises on air connectivity in North East, 15 new airports to ensure efficiency

Garima Singh, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Civil Aviation, emphasized on the development of connectivity in the region. There are altogether 15 airports ensuring efficiency of travel in the region. She also spoke about the new Greenfield Airport Project which is under development; the aim is to inaugurate it by 15th August ’22, in line with the celebration of 75 years of Independence. The commencement of operations at Tezu Airport in Arunachal Pradesh along with some other important projects was also brought forward in the discussion. Initiatives are being undertaken to enhance air connectivity for the development of tourism in the North Eastern Region.

MoT sanctions projects worth Rs 200 crore under PRASHAD schemes for NE region

Speaking at a forum in Assam, G. Kishan Reddy said that the Ministry has sanctioned 16 projects under the Swadesh Darshan Scheme in the North Eastern region. He added that through the schemes, his ministry is giving special emphasis on developing infrastructure, ground capacity and skills in the region as well as providing branding and marketing assistance. He revealed that projects worth approximately Rs 200 crore has been sanctioned for these projects.

The aim is to discuss development of tourism and issues related to connectivity in the North Eastern Region. “Tourism can be a game changer that can bring socio-economic change in the nation especially in NE region,” he said. The conference also had in presence, Himanta Biswa Sarma, Chief Minister of Assam; Arjun Ram Meghwal, Union Minister of State for Culture and Parliamentary Affairs; Ajay Bhatt, Union Minister of State for Tourism and Defence, also graced the inaugural session of conference.

Udaipur gets highest number of tourists in 10 years

Principle Secretary of Rajasthan Tourism, Gayatri Rathore states “At a time when tourism has been the worst-affected sector amid COVID, things have improved here. In fact, better than in previous years. Udaipur has recorded maximum tourist footfall in 10 years. Occupancy rate (in hotels) has gone up, especially on weekends in destinations bordering other states.” The state had become a monsoon getaway and de-stressing point in COVID times. Things have improved in Udaipur.

Tamil Nadu’s tourism master plan includes a new policy & 300 tourist destinations

M. Mathiventhan, Tourism Minister, Tamil Nadu, has announced a new master plan to improve the infrastructure of 300 tourist sites, and to develop a tourism policy. He said that a tourism destination development scheme is to be designed for the development of tourism sites, which includes, adventure sites, and eco-tourism sites. They will develop helipads for helicopter services in Rameswaram, Madurai, and Kodaikanal.
